Any person providing assistance to the voter in completing the Application for Mail-In Ballot must provide his/her name, address and signature on the application.
Voters have the option to receive a vote by mail ballot at each election for the balance of the calendar year or the option to receive a vote by mail ballot for all general elections.
To receive your vote by mail ballot your application must be received by the County Clerk’s Office no later than 7 days prior to the election.
If you do not meet the above deadline the voter or authorized messenger (with a completed application from the voter) must appear in person to the County Clerk’s Office until 3:00 p.m. the day prior to the election. This is known as “emergency time” when approved applicants receive their ballots on the spot (see dates in related link above). After that deadline only court ordered ballots may be issued.
During emergency time voters may designate a family member or another registered voter of Cape May County as an authorized messenger. A messenger may not be a candidate in the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot by authorized messenger. The voter must fill out and sign the application designating the messenger. The messenger is required to show photo identification when he/she delivers the application to the County Clerk’s Office. Upon approval the ballot will be given to the messenger for delivery to the voter.
Note: A person is limited to serve as a messenger for THREE qualified voters.
